MUTEK is a 5-day mega-electro-music-mecca with 150 avant-garde advanced-experimental & underground acts, plus a hub for digital-improve, multimedia-art innovation & global multi-genre sonic ideas, where high-tech producers, performers & indie pros rendezvous with 25,000 fans & progressive EDM partiers. Festival de Créativité Numérique et de Musiques Électroniques or Festival of Digital Creativity & Electronic Music, run by a French-Canadian non-profit org since 2000 (with South American & Asian editions), is one of the world’s premier platforms for presenting & discovering audio-visual visionaries & programming MU-tators at MAC (Musée D’Art Contemporain), Coeur des Sciences, Jean-Drapeau Park and Quartier des Spectacles in Montreal Canada.

Mutek: Digital-Electro-Sonic-Art + EDM

Mutek Festival is a unique marriage of electronic music and digital/visual art with world premiers from artist and international performers, with everything from the basic outdoor performances, to indoor, lamp-lit, improv & participation events, which shroud fans in darkness to synchronise them with ambient lighting and avant-garde music. The underground performance has also reached international destinations, setting up in Mexico City, South African, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, China and Columbia.

150 Acts

150 homegrown & international acts perform in various rooms and on elaborate, overwhelming stages, with previous stars including: Ricardo Villalobos, Amon Tobin, Vladislav Delay, Plastikman, Deadbeat, Ghislain Poirier, Christian Fennesz, Jan Jelinek, Wighnomy Brothers, Camila Fuchs and Pole.

Embracing the art and music synthesis unlike any other, it is the experimental, avant-garde and underground scene, which makes Mutek original. Previous installations, key notes and creative workshops like the VR Salon, where fans can listen to industry professionals with roundtables, presentations and networking opportunities, plus Virtual Reality (VR) and Mixed Reality (MR) exhibitions focusing on applications in creative contexts for art, cinema, docs and cultural expressions.

Mutek is also linked with SHAPE (Sound, Heterogeneous Art and Performance in Europe), a collaboration of avant-garde contemporary electronic music, innovative audiovisual experiences and sound.

Season & Weather

Season: Summer
Temperature: 14 to 27 °C

Montreal weather in July & August is usually quite hot, especially in July, and somewhat wet in August. Daytime highs can reach above 27°C but evenings are pleasantly cool. When MUTEK is held in August, prepare for showers, which are practically guaranteed. Since many of the events are held outdoors - within the 1 km festival zone known as the Quartier des Spectacles in the heart of Montreal - prepare by packing really comfy footwear, light waterproof jackets, umbrellas, and for daytime sun - hats, sandals & sunscreen.
